CRITERIA


top notchThis section comprises of four pages, the mandatory criteria, followed by the criteria pages: navigation, design and content.
Please ensure that you read them all. The number one reason sites are disqualified is that they haven't taken the time to read all of the criteria. We will know if you haven't, and it would be a shame if you have to then wait thirty days before re-applying! Here you can find what we are looking for in your site and also things to avoid.

Mandatory Criteria

In order for your site to be reviewed please ensure that you read the following mandatory criteria. If your site should fail to meet ANY of the following points your review will come to an immediate end and you will be notified of our findings.

01. In order for us to evaluate your site it should be written in English, other languages are welcome as long as the website has a translated version.

02. As child safety on the Internet is very important to us, we have chosen to review only those sites that are family friendly. We also like to see sites that use labels from ICRA or Safe Surf. Please ensure that proper Meta tags/PIC labels are present in the coding on each page of your site and are up-to-date. Furthermore, the actual CONTENT of your pages, including external links, are family friendly/child safe.

03. Please ensure that you are at least 18 years of age and the owner and creator of the site.

04. Your website needs to have at least six (6) pages of quality content relating to education or entertainment. A page of content is seen as one A4 sheet of paper containing text and images. This does not include: welcome pages, awards won, guestbooks, forums, site rings, policies, contact or link pages.

05. Please only apply if you have a personal website however you may have items for sale if you are an artist or craftworker.

06. Sorry fellow award program owners! We have decided against reviewing your program as we feel that they need a different criteria for evaluation. However, you are most welcome to list your site with us in our award index.

07. If you wish to win our award please ensure that you have a section linked from your homepage to proudly display your awards even if you haven't won any at the present time.

08. A responsible webmaster will ensure that no part of their site including links contains illegal or unsuitable material for viewing of all ages. This includes:
i) Any material related with pornography, *nudity or sex.
ii) The use of vulgar and bad language.
iii) Gambling, or online casinos.
iv) Promotion of illegal activitites such as larceny or terrorism.
v) Violence or cruelty to animals or people.
vi) Racism or other discriminatory content, including adult jokes or links to such sites.
*Nudity shown in art will be exempt from the rule. It must be tasteful and not contain unsuitable material in the opinion of our judges.

09. We understand that a good website is always being developed. However, please do not apply if you have 'under construction' notices. Please wait until it's finished!

10. We need to access all areas of your site to give a thorough review. We will not continue with our evaluation if we have to subscribe, register or login in order to gain access. These are not in the interest of the general viewer. An exception to this rule is an administration link for the webmaster to access the upkeep of a blog.

11. If you collect information of any kind whether it is a guestbook or email a responsible webmaster will have a privacy policy, explaining what happens with their information. If you reside in the USA you should also comply with C.O.P.P.A.

12. Please give credit where credit is due. A copyright statement needs to be clearly displayed listing where you have obtained the information and graphics for your site. Written permission should have been obtained from the author for text. Links should be provided to the webmaster for the use of graphics displayed.

13. Horizontal scrolling is defined by the viewer having to scroll from left to right to view a page. Your site will be viewed with various browsers at 800x600 and 1024x768 resolutions. If this is found to be the case your review will come to an end and we will point this out to you.

14. Flash Intros can be a beautiful way of introducing your site, but please avoid making a visitor wait. Always leave an option where we can continue without waiting.

16. Although music can be an interesting addition to a site we would like to see an option where we can turn it off.

17. We like to see that you have not included any unwanted instructions such as mouse cursors being changed, auto redirect and auto downloads. If you use pop-ups please ensure that they are justified. Pop up banners from free hosts are allowed so long as they do not obstruct and distract from our viewing.

18. A responsible webmaster will ensure that they have read ALL of the criteria, so that they can add the correct answer when asked if they have read the criteria.
**hint** this is not just simply yes! They will also wait for the required 30 days before re-application.
